Randy, Mary and Their Beloved Cocker Spaniels Bodhi and Louie.

About Us

Hi! My name is Randall Baron and I was born in 1949 in Louisville, Kentucky. I have lived here my entire life except when I’m traveling to explore the world. I was educated at the University of Florida where the game of bridge found me and the passion for it grabbed my soul.

After graduation, I decided to earn my living in bridge, because as they say, “If you do what you enjoy, you never work a day in your life.” I became a partner in the Olympic Bridge Club in Louisville before starting Baron Bridge Supplies in 1974. My wife Mary and I ran the company out of our garage in Simpsonville, Kentucky in the early days after we were married the next year before moving into Louisville. .

I have worn many hats in bridge: author and co-author of many books and pamphlets, started Devyn Press (our publishing company named after our daughter) which was the largest bridge publisher in the world in the 80s and 90s, wrote a bridge column, taught classes locally and on cruises, was a director at the club, secretary of our district of the ACBL for 5 years, and played whenever possible.

In 1990 we bought Barclay Bridge Supplies of Port Chester, New York, moved it to Kentucky and renamed it Baron Barclay. By the time Mary and I sold the business to our partners in 2006, our mailing list included over 200,000 bridge players and we had become the largest bridge supply company in the world. In recent years, I have been a consultant to Baron Barclay and I enjoy lecturing around the country.

Mary and I have two children: Devyn, an award-winning glassblower, who continues to surprise me with her incredible creations, and Dustin, who ran our eco-friendly gift store for 5 years, and is now a successful realtor as well as a popular mandolin musician. We love to travel around North America with our perfectly-behaved cocker spaniel, Bodhi, although we don't depart as much as in the past because we have been blessed with three grandchildren here in Louisville, Jackson, Lucy, and Sadie.

Now seems like a great time in life to enjoy sharing my love of travel and bridge with my friends I have met all over the world in the past 40 years. I hope you will join me for the exciting upcoming adventures around the globe.
